Writers' Links

Page history last edited by Mr Dittes 13 years, 4 months ago

This is a wiki effort.  If you know of a place online where teens can get help--or develop ideas--add it to our list of links!

Contests

Reading Rockets has a Write It, Film It Video Contest up.  The deadline is August 30.  Write and film a 3-minute video for the contest.  If you win, your work will be posted on three busy Internet web sites, and you may win a Flip camera, DVDs, books and/or movie tickets.

Writing Blogs

About.com has a nice fiction blog that is updated regularly.

Blue Zoo Young Writers reviews web site and provides useful tips.

Literary Magazines

ChixLit is an online literary magazine for teen & pre-teen girls.  They accept submissions, but you have to subscribe ($15/year) to get the whole thing.

The Claremont Review searches worldwide for young-adult writing.  Publish your poetry, essays or short stories here ($18 yearly subscription).

Sweet Designs magazine publishes articles for and about teenage girls.

Teen Ink publishes fiction and nonfiction writing by teens (as well as photos).  It's web site has a forum and many tools young writers can use.

WriteGirl is a community developed to opening doors for young, female writers.

Speak Up Press- publishes short stories, poetry, and artwork.

Tips about Writing and Selling your Work

TVTropes, org is a site that caters to television writers but has a lot of good examples of character, conflict and setting.  If you're ever stuck on an idea or looking for an idea, I would highly recommend it.  It's a wiki, too, so you are welcome to add some of your own ideas, too.

Preditors & Editors provides a guide to publishers and agents that can help you publish your work.

Writers.net has discussion forums, publishers guides and information about agents.

David Barr Kirtley started writing horror and fantasy as a teen, and he has resources available if you're looking into this market.

Scriptito's Place is aimed at younger writers, ages 7 to 15, but you'll pick up some nice tips here.
